Second phase of South China Karst Nominations registered by WHC

According to World Heritage Center, the second phase of South China Karst serial nomination composed of Guilin Karst (Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region), Huanjiang Karst (Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region), Shibing Karst (Guizhou) and Mount Jinfo Karst (Chongqing) are considered to meet all the technical requirements in the Operational Guidelines for complete nominations. The documents have now been forwarded to IUNC for evaluation, which means the WHC has officially registered the nomination of this project.

 

It is reported that experts from IUCN will undertake field inspections and carry out evaluations for each nominated property in late August to early September this year. After IUCN completes its evaluation report based on field inspections, the nomination will be further examined and registered by the World Heritage Committee and be inscribed on the World Heritage List upon final approval. Up to date, projects for environmental improvement and exhibition centers for world heritage sites have been kicked off by each property component of the second phase South China Karst nominations.

 

Experts say that by successful inscription of on the World Heritage List, the nominated properties of the second phase of South China Karst together with those inscribed in the first phase will make a complete serial property, which contains the most representative karst landforms in highlands to flatter lowlands, such as tower karst, pinnacle karst and cone karst, reflecting a most complete and distinctive involving process and spectacular landscape of karst landform in the world.
