Yasushi NISHIMURA

NISHIMURA Yasushi was born in 1942. He has been elected as Director of Cultural Heritage Protection Cooperation Office, Asia-Pacific Cultural Centre for UNESCO (ACCU Nara) since 2007. As an archaeologist, he is an honorary member of International Society for Archaeological Prospection, and the emeritus researcher and a visiting researcher of Nara National Research Institute for Cultural Properties, Japan. In 2009, Mr. NISHIMURA received SAHAMETREI medal from the Government of Cambodia for contribution on cultural heritage protection.
Mr. NISHIMURA has more than 30-year experience in the protection and preservation of cultural heritage not only in Japan itself but also in the whole Asia-Pacific region. From 1969 to 1975, he began to work in the Department of Nara Palace Site Excavation, National Research Institute for Cultural Properties, Nara. And during the same period, he had been engaging in excavation on Palace and Temple sites. After 1992, he started a five-year scientific research program with another 86 professionals on “The Development of Advanced Archaeological Prospecting Methods”. Concerning practical experience, from 1995 to 2000, he initiated the field survey at Siem Reap area in Cambodia as part of archaeological sites research program.
As a lead of ACCU Nara, he also organizes academic conferences with various themes which serve different target audiences from the region. Moreover, due to his rich knowledge in archaeology, he is also invited to deliver presentations and lectures in other provinces of Japan, Vienna and Italy.
