Dr. Kong received her Bachelor and Master degree of Urban Planning and Urban Design at the College of Architecture and Urban Planning, Tongji University and M.A. (Arch) at the Department of Architecture, National University of Singapore. Since May 2005, she conducted the PhD research on ‘Social Quality in the Conservation Process of Living Heritage Sites’ in Delft University of Technology, the Netherlands, and was awarded with the PhD degree in June 2008.

Dr. Kong worked for World Heritage Institute of Training and Research for the Asia and the Pacific Region (WHITRAP) in Shanghai from 2005 to 2009, acting as assistant director of the Institute. She is in Europe consulting for WHITRAP. She is specialized in social study of conservation and has presented papers at several international conferences and seminars on heritage conservation. She was also invited to deliver lectures in Italy and Japan.
