Date: November 1-2, 2014 Location: Tongli Town, Jiangsu Province, China Host: College of Architecture and Urban Planning, Tongji University, China Shanghai Tongji Urban Planning & Design Institute (TJUPDI), China Co-host: World Heritage Institute of Training and Research for Asia and the Pacific Region under the auspices of UNESCO (WHITRAP Shanghai) Support: Tongli Township Government, Suzhou, Jiangsu, China Nowadays, global city (also called world city) is a city generally considered to be an important node in the global economic system. However, the process of globalization is supposed to bring about homogenization of the local cultures. This International Symposium focus on the relationship between globalization and localization in the process of urban redevelopment; the reflection on the role of historic/cultural resources in global city building; the experience on urban heritage conservation and renovation, etc. We intend to promote the comparative studies on these topics in different East-Asian global cities, especially Shanghai, Seoul and Tokyo.
