To commemorate the 50th anniversary of the World Heritage Convention, UNESCO collected official theme activities from contracting parties around the world. Recommended by the National Commission of the People's Republic of China for UNESCO, the "Education Empowering the Future: World Heritage Creative Innovator Forum 2022" hosted by WHITRAP has become a key project recommended by UNESCO and has been included in UNESCO’s official commemorative events calendar. 1. Theme In 2021, WHITRAP successfully organized the side event titled “World Heritage Education Towards a Sustainable Future” at the 44th session of the World Heritage Committee, which was hosted by the Ministry of Education and other departments and institutions of China. This side event became a highlight of the conference and was highly praised by all parties. This year, with the support and encouragement of relevant partners, WHITRAP retains the basic framework, and upgrades and extends the side event into "Education Empowering the Future: World Heritage Creative Innovator Forum 2022". By taking advantage of the strong cooperation network of WHITRAP, the Innovator Forum will focus on the comprehensive innovation of heritage sites with science and innovation as the core, gather the cutting-edge creative innovators in related fields, and jointly build an international innovative cooperation platform across government, industry, university and research institute, aiming at comprehensively foster heritage protection and utilization in the future with science and technology and creativity as the core, heritage education as the guide, and pattern innovation as the means. We use science and technology to empower the innovative and sustainable development of the heritage sites, with the expectation which helping the heritage sites overcome the current pandemic and jointly opening the next 50 years of the World Heritage Convention. 2. Introduction Since June, WHITRAP has launched various activities (see the schedule below) to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the World Heritage Convention, including international dialogues, forums, workshops, and exhibitions, which including the 2022 Global Awards for World Heritage Education Innovative Cases (officially released on July 17). The results of all activities will be presented and released at the Innovator Forum in November, so as to push this series of commemorative events to a climax. The "Education Empowering the Future: World Heritage Creative Innovator Forum 2022" (to be held from November 16 to 18) is not only the continuation of the side event of the 44th Committee, but also the finale of the series of events commemorating the 50th anniversary of the World Heritage Convention. WHITRAP will mobilize and integrate advantageous resources, and gather creative innovators from governments, institutions, experts, and enterprises at domestic and foreign related to the scientific and innovative development of heritage sites. We will conduct in-depth docking, cooperation, and exchanges with all the guests, and will jointly carry out creative activities such as the award ceremony of world heritage education innovative cases, the international summit on heritage protection, the round-table talk on digital opportunities for heritage, and the releasing of demonstrative heritage innovation projects. 3. Main Partners Directed by: National Commission of the People's Republic of China for UNESCO Co-organized by: World Federation of UNESCO Clubs, Centres and Associations (WFUCA) World Heritage Institute of Training and Research for the Asia and the Pacific Region under the auspices of UNESCO (WHITRAP) World Heritage Youth Education Center Supported by: Relative international institutions: UNESCO World Heritage Center (WHC), International Centre on Space Technologies for Natural and Cultural Heritage (HIST), International Research and Training Center for Rural Education (INRULED), UNESCO Chair on Sustainable Tourism at UNESCO Designated Sites, UNOSSC South-South Cities Clusters, British Embassy Beijing, BJUNESCO, etc.; Relative heritage sites: Migratory Bird Sanctuaries along the Coast of Yellow Sea-Bohai Gulf of China, Mount Fanjing, Historic Monuments of Dengfeng in “The Centre of Heaven and Earth”, Old Town of Lijiang, Ancient City of Ping Yao, Jiangnan Ancient Water Town, Grand Canal, Silk Roads, etc.; Relevant academic institutions and experts: Tongji University, Peking University, etc.; Relevant creative cities, enterprises, other institutions, etc..
