FAQ: 2022 Global Awards for World Heritage Education Innovative Cases

Since the official launch of the international case collection for “2022 Global Awards for World Heritage Education Innovative Cases”(click to read more, and will be referred to as “the award” as follows) on July 17, there have been positive responses from various sectors such as heritage sites, education, science and innovation, etc. While actively participating in the application, they have also consulted the organizing committee through various ways.

In order to enhance the interactive participation of the application of the award, here we provide answers to some typical and representative questions. This work will continue to be carried out in accordance with the progress of the application in the future.

1. Q: Can I make an application for a site not listed on UNESCO official World Heritage list?

Q: Can I make an application for a site listed in the Globally Important Agricultural Heritage Systems (GIAHS) of Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations?

A: Yes.

  • The award focuses on the discovery and dissemination of heritage values in a broad sense. It is not limited to UNESCO World Heritage sites. All types and levels of heritage sites, towns and villages, monuments, intangible cultural heritage and other relevant cases can be applied.

2. Q: We are in a less-developed region. Could you provide us with some support and help in the application?

A: Regional balance and support for less-developed regions is one of the principles of the award, and it is reflected in the following aspects:

  • Greater consideration of social, economic sustainability and technological adaptability;

  • An inclination towards rural, Africa, Pacific islands and other less-developed regions (such as the 2021 Africa project, etc.);

  • Technical and professional support for public welfare if appropriate will be provided.

3. Q: Can I make an application for a completely online education case?

A: Yes.

  • Given the essentially non-replicable nature of heritage values, the award has a higher standard of assessment for completely online education cases.


4. Q: Is there a limit on the number of applications that can be made by one individual/institution?

A: There is no limit for the number of applications.
  • Considering there will be many cases for acceptance and assessment , it is suggested to choose 1-2 cases for application;

  • In principle, due to the related global recognition and promotion of the award, a case can only have one main organization in responsible for the application.

In the forum, not only the winning cases will be released and shared internationally, but also the one-stop combing and sharing of the world’s most cutting-edge innovation and development model of heritage sites based on science and innovation will be shown and introduced. The forum will truly become a platform for efficient jointing and sharing between world heritage creative innovators and heritage sites.
