On 9th October, the "2023 Advanced Course on Conservation and Restoration Techniques of Traditional Architecture for the Asia-Pacific Region" was held at Suzhou University of Science and Technology. This training course was jointly organized by WHITRAP Suzhou, Suzhou University of Science and Technology, and Suzhou Leading Group Office for the Construction of the Grand Canal Cultural Belt and the Grand Canal Yangtze River National Cultural Park. The theme of this training course was "Awareness and Revitalization of the Cultural Heritage of the Grand Canal of China under the Comprehensive Perspective". From 9th to 14th October, experts and scholars from China, the United States, and the Netherlands gave lectures on the topics of the training course. More than 30 trainees from China (including Macao), Thailand and Cambodia attended the training, including representatives from the Beijing, Henan, Jiangsu and Zhejiang sections of the Grand Canal of China, as well as representatives from the research and management unit of the Silk Road, a linear World Heritage site, and representatives from the Dujiangyan Scenic Area Management Bureau, a World Heritage site of water conservation. Through in-depth theoretical discussions and practical research, this training brought cultural heritage professional research forces at home and abroad together to discuss the protection and inheritance of the cultural heritage of the Grand Canal and the construction of the cultural park. It aimed to explore solutions for the protection of cultural heritage in China and the Asia-Pacific region, and show Suzhou's pioneering practical experience in protecting the cultural heritage of the Grand Canal and the construction of the Grand Canal National Cultural Park, as well as telling a good "Chinese story" of the protection and inheritance of the cultural heritage.
