To effectively strengthen the group conservation of Suzhou gardens, the WHITRAP Suzhou Center carried out regulatory inspections in 2022 for the gardens inscribed on the Suzhou Garden List and recorded the conservation status in the Suzhou Garden Monitoring System. In March 2023, WHITRAP Suzhou completed the preparation of Suzhou Garden Protection and Management Report 2022 based on the comprehensive research on the 108 gardens around Suzhou, which comprehensively reflects the protection, management and utilization of Suzhou gardens. Generally speaking, Suzhou gardens are in well management, with the daily maintenance and restoration as well as the utilization carried out orderly. Their protection and management are further strengthened at present. The first is to carry out the protection, maintenance, and disease treatment of the garden itself. The Taicang South Garden has carried out projects on repair of ancient buildings and landscape improvement, and most gardens have orderly carried out the protection and repair of elements such as buildings, rockeries, and inscriptions. The second is to maintain and improve the charm of gardens. The project of water quality improvement is implemented in the Garden of Cultivation and the Lion Forest Garden. Gardens such as Tuisiyuan and Gu Yanwu's former residence have strengthened the protection of ancient trees, while gardens such as Changyuan have carried out environmental improvement around them. The third is to promote and disseminate garden culture in various forms as gardens are carriers of traditional culture. The fourth functioned as the social service platform. Rich and colorful cultural public welfare activities and volunteer services are organized in gardens, further spreading and promoting Jiangnan garden culture. |
